Our week is finally here, the next NUT meeting will be this Saturday May 21 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.

A couple of the topics we will talk about and demonstrate are grocery shopping online at Hy-Vee and using LastPass to keep track of your passwords.

Don’t let that be all we talk about. Bring your questions, ideas, and of course yourself to our next meeting.

The Northland Users Of Technology is just a group of people who get together to talk about technology as it relates to those who are blind or low vision. There are no membership dues, no officers to elect, and none of that formal stuff that prevents people from simply talking with people.
If you need assistance in getting to the Club Room at Hy-Vee, stop at Customer Service and they will be happy to help.
We do have wonderful people to get food from the kitchen area at Hy-Vee. You are welcome to enjoy the yummy food but it is not a requirement for attending our meetings.

Just a note, We are back to meeting on our regular second Saturday of the month in June.

BarCode Finder & Directions For Me

As I said in a recent NUT meeting, the free Bar Code Finder program for Windows would soon be working with Directions For Me so when you scan a Bar Code with a Bar Code scanner you would get the identification of the item along with any directions, all from one program.

Here are the results of an item I scanned yesterday.

Atkins Beef Teriyaki Stir-Fry

Directions:
Keep frozen. Cook thoroughly.Microwave oven (suggested method):Cook only one product at a time.1: place a 1 slit in the center of the film.2: microwave product on high for 2 minutes.*3: remove film, stir and replace film.4: microwave on high for an additional 2 minutes.*5: let stand 1 minute. Carefully remove as product will be hot; stir.*Microwave ovens below 1100 watts may require additional cook time to reach proper temperature. Check that product is cooked thoroughly. Internal temperature needs to reach 165 degrees F as measured by a food thermometer in several spots.Conventional oven:Do not prepare in toaster oven.1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Empty contents of tray into oven safe dish.2: Cover dish with foil and cut a 1 slit in center. Place on center rack of oven.3: Bake for 35 minutes.* Carefully remove from oven, stir and replace foil.4: Bake for an additional 10 minutes.*5: Product will be hot. Let stand 1 minute; stir.*Temperatures above 350 degrees F and/or failure to use a baking dish may cause damage to the tray, food and/or oven. Check that product is cooked thoroughly. Internal temperature needs to reach 165 degrees F as measured by a food thermometer in several spots.For food safety and quality:Keep frozen: do not thaw.Product must be cooked thoroughly.Ovens and wattages vary. Adjust cooking times as needed.Read and follow the cooking instructions.
